A CD player weighing 16.5 kilograms hints at the effort TEAC invested here. The VRDS-25X ranks among the most renowned high-end CD players of its era, and its heart is the VRDS transport (Vibration-Free Rigid Disc-Clamping System): it clamps the disc onto a precision-machined aluminium platter, reducing vibration and read errors to a minimum. This construction made TEAC famous worldwide and is still regarded as one of the finest CD transport designs ever built.
Conversion is handled by multiple D/A converters with 8x oversampling and four 20-bit DACs, backed by an elaborately built power supply and audiophile-grade components. Connections include balanced XLR and RCA analogue outputs as well as coaxial and optical digital ports.
This unit comes from its first owner (an estate) and presents in very well-kept condition, cosmetically and technically. Before sale it received a comprehensive overhaul in our specialist workshop: transport and tray mechanism fully revised, all moving parts cleaned and re-lubricated, every drive belt replaced, the mechanics then precisely adjusted and tested. Included are the original remote control, the four original TEAC feet/spikes — rarely still complete — and the service record from our HEM Audio workshop.
Sonically, the VRDS-25X stands for natural, spacious and musical reproduction: authentic voices, instruments with body and fine detail, and confident, controlled bass. Add to that a calm, composed character that makes long listening evenings a pleasure — a player for music lovers and collectors who appreciate uncompromising engineering.
