A repair puts right what has failed: a burnt-out resistor, a faulty switch, a dry solder joint. Servicing goes further — it takes the whole component through before the next failure arrives. Electrolytic capacitors dry out, potentiometers grow scratchy, relay contacts burn. Those parts have reached the end of their life, whether the component still plays today or not.
Repair and servicing
A component that has fallen silent, hums or plays on one channel only is rarely beyond saving. Most of the time it has simply grown old.
