Susumu Sakuma of Tokyo is one of the defining figures of Japanese tube amplifier building, and his designs around the 211 tube enjoy a legendary reputation among connoisseurs. The SUN 211-T monoblocks offered here were hand-built in Germany in 2008, strictly to the master's own plans and material specifications.
The choice of materials follows those specifications without compromise: cherry-wood housings, top and bottom plates of solid 5 mm copper — the top plate additionally lacquered against patina — and interiors lined with thin copper sheet. Everything is hand-wired, with pure silver cable running through the signal paths all the way to the speaker terminals. The transformers come from Tamura Seisakusho / Tamradio / Biltrite of Tokyo and rank among the most renowned and most expensive audio transformers on the market.
What stays with you sonically is above all the exceptional clarity of voices and instruments — the kind one rarely gets to hear. Construction plans no longer exist; we have set the bias at the mid position of the potentiometers, where the amplifiers run very stably and without any background noise. The asking price reflects the rarity of these monoblocks and their provenance from a collector's and enthusiast's holding.
Technical data per monoblock: width 310 mm, length 610 mm, height approx. 270 mm, weight approx. 35 kg — these are correspondingly large and heavy amplifiers. Output 21–28 watts per channel, speaker impedances configurable for 4, 8 and 16 ohms, 240-volt mains version.
