In 1972, the Model Ten – also known as the CT-38 "The Pistol" – marked KLH Research's step into the premium class of hi-fi, remarkable even in its day. With their original driver complement, these American vintage speakers are rarely found on the European market anymore; the pair offered here goes a step further still.
In March 2025 we carried out an extensive technical and cosmetic restoration: the bass drivers received new surrounds and a full overhaul, while the old crossovers and wiring gave way to a crossover newly developed in our workshop. New internal cabling with high-quality speaker terminals and interior damping of bitumen and convoluted foam completed the work. The terminals, originally mounted underneath the cabinet, were discreetly relocated to the outside – a real gain in everyday handling.
Sonically, a wide soundstage and dry, well-defined bass take centre stage. Following the rebuild, sensitivity now stands at 94 dB, so even smaller amplifiers will do; tube amplifiers and vintage receivers from the period make ideal partners, while high-quality electronics bring out their very best.
The oak trim has been refinished and sealed with wax, and the original fabric grilles were dry-cleaned – free of stains, holes or odours, the overall appearance is as good as new. A pair for collectors and music lovers who appreciate the effort behind such a restoration; on-site setup and instruction is available at extra cost depending on distance, and only by prior arrangement.
