A small Swiss workshop with high ambitions: Acustik-Lab High Precision Audio Systems builds loudspeakers exclusively for the upper high-end segment, and the Model Demian is one of the rarely encountered examples of that philosophy in bookshelf format. Opportunities to acquire a compact speaker of this calibre on the pre-owned market are few and far between.
The design relies on selected components and high-grade drivers of the kind also used at the time by manufacturers such as Focal and Acapella. The result is a precise, highly detailed presentation with clean soundstaging and a warm tonal balance, well suited to long listening sessions. The front-firing bass reflex port allows deep bass extension and uncomplicated placement.
With an impedance of 4 ohms, power handling of 80–120 watts and a sensitivity of around 91 dB, the pair works well with transistor, tube or hybrid amplification; quality electronics are recommended. The terminals accept banana plugs, spades or bare wire. Each cabinet measures 345 mm in height, 190 mm in width and 225 mm in depth and weighs around 10 kg.
This pair comes from its first owner (built around 1995) and a non-smoking household, and its condition reflects that care: visually almost flawless, with the original grilles undamaged and chemically cleaned. High-quality rubber absorbers are fitted to the base and can be removed without residue. Supplied without further accessories, securely packed for transport – technician-checked and covered by a 12-month HEM-Audio warranty.
