Subwoofers for stereo systems are a discipline of their own: what counts is not sheer output but contour, speed, and the ability to slip unobtrusively beneath the main speakers. This is precisely what Focal designed the Electra SW900 for — an active subwoofer from the Electra series, intended for audiophile music listeners and offered here in the Cherry (Classic) finish.
Working on the down-firing principle is a 33 cm woofer with Focal's W-sandwich cone, to this day a hallmark of the French manufacturer, known for high rigidity, low distortion, and clean transient reproduction. The driver is powered by a 77 mm voice coil with a 184 mm magnet system, the built-in amplifier delivers 250 watts into 8 ohms, and the operating range extends from 25 to 180 Hz. The massive cabinet (approx. 48.8 × 43 × 62 cm) weighs in at around 44 kg — ideal conditions for control even at high levels.
Paired with high-quality stereo speakers — those of the Electra series being the obvious match, though by no means the only one — the SW900 delivers dry, well-contoured deep bass without ever pushing itself to the fore; voices and instruments gain a tangible foundation. The unit on offer comes from its first owner, a non-smoking household, is visually very well kept with no discernible damage, and is in fully working order.
